Open the exact answer →Measure the trip to the building you actually use. Compare walking, biking, transit, driving, parking availability and cost, late-day service, and the backup plan—not just straight-line miles.
Open the exact answer →Verify the listing, property, and person before paying. Be cautious with unusually low rent, pressure to pay quickly, inability to tour, mismatched ownership details, and demands for wire transfers, gift cards, crypto, or other hard-to-recover payments.
Open the exact answer →Plan for screening documents, deposits, guarantor alternatives, payment methods, lease length, arrival timing, scams, transportation, and any school-specific support. Never pay a landlord solely because a listing claims to be “student approved.”
Open the exact answer →Housing and food are part of a school’s cost-of-attendance framework, but your actual aid and cash flow depend on your UT Austin financial aid offer, school charges, eligibility, and disbursement timing.

For a condo in Austin near UT, you need an HO-6 condo policy for your unit, belongings, liability, and extra living expenses, while the condo association’s master policy covers the shared building areas and whatever part of the unit the association insures. The exact boundary depends on the HOA’s master policy, so you should read that policy before you buy.
UT Austin’s off-campus housing options break into four main buckets: university-affiliated housing, private dormitories, private apartments, and houses or co-ops. For students who want the most structure, 2400 Nueces and private dorms are the closest fit; for more independent living, private apartments, houses, and co-ops are the main off-campus choices.
