Start with the campus and your timeline

School and move-in eligibility

Use the official University at Albany source for the relevant campus and academic year before signing a lease or planning a student move into a family-owned home. A landlord’s approval does not establish university eligibility.

Parent and out-of-state planning

Match the lease or purchase timeline to the school calendar. For a remote move, verify the exact campus destination, inspection and touring arrangements, utilities, emergency access and maintenance responsibilities.

For a family purchase, verify occupancy, roommate rules, HOA restrictions, financing and the post-graduation plan for the actual home. Property-specific eligibility and availability are not established by this hub.

Housing rules, leases and roommates

Which University at Albany residents need 2026–27 recess-housing approval, and which named apartments have an existing-resident exception?

UAlbany’s 2026–27 recess program requires approval for residents to remain in ordinary residence halls during Thanksgiving, intersession and spring break. Freedom, Liberty, Empire Commons and Great Dane Apartments remain open for their existing residents without a recess application. The apartment exception does not extend to students who are not already residents of those buildings. Check the student’s assigned building and existing-resident status before deciding whether to apply. Recess access is building-specific, and hall IDs for residents without approval may be disabled. Applications normally appear weeks before a recess. Check exact application opening dates, deadlines and the student’s approval with the university before planning to stay. University guidance checked on October 18, 2026.

Source record: 2026-10-18. 2026–27 Thanksgiving, intersession and spring break. Ordinary residence halls require approval; the no-application exception applies only to existing residents of Freedom, Liberty, Empire Commons and Great Dane Apartments. Non-approved hall IDs may be disabled. Confirm exact application dates, individual approval and any fee with the university; access outside the stated building and existing-resident conditions is not guaranteed. University guidance checked on October 18, 2026.

How does UAlbany describe ordering an ID card and requesting a temporary card?

UAlbany directs students to use their NetID to submit an identity photo, order an ID card, and select pickup or delivery. Temporary cards can be requested from ID Services, Police or a residence area office. Complete the photo and card-order steps, choose the collection method offered for your situation, and contact the appropriate office if you need a temporary card. Confirm any separate identity verification, on-campus activation and housing assignment needed for room access. A card order or temporary-card request does not establish that access has been enabled. University guidance checked on October 17, 2026.

Source record: 2026-10-17. UAlbany student ID ordering and temporary-card request routes only. Confirm separate identity verification, on-campus activation and housing assignment for room access; no guaranteed delivery, temporary-card approval or enabled room access.

What arrival-reporting form and documents does UAlbany ISSS describe for new F-1 and J-1 students?

UAlbany International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) directs new F-1 and J-1 students to report their arrival through its online form for SEVIS registration. Its arrival-reporting page lists the I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa and I-94, and says to report by the end of the first week of classes. Open the ISSS arrival-reporting instructions linked below and confirm the form and documents that apply to you. Ask ISSS which term dates and any document-category exceptions govern your submission. The page’s relative deadline needs your own class calendar; it does not establish a calendar date for another term. University guidance checked on October 17, 2026.

Source record: 2026-10-17. University administrative reporting for new F-1/J-1 students. Confirm your term calendar and visa/document-category exceptions with ISSS; no specific class date, individual status determination or universal document requirement is inferred. University guidance checked on October 17, 2026.
