Start with the campus and your timeline

School and move-in eligibility

Use the official The New School source for the relevant campus and academic year before signing a lease or planning a student move into a family-owned home. A landlord’s approval does not establish university eligibility.

Parent and out-of-state planning

Match the lease or purchase timeline to the school calendar. For a remote move, verify the exact campus destination, inspection and touring arrangements, utilities, emergency access and maintenance responsibilities.

For a family purchase, verify occupancy, roommate rules, HOA restrictions, financing and the post-graduation plan for the actual home. Property-specific eligibility and availability are not established by this hub.

What photo-approval and check-in sequence does The New School describe for an incoming resident’s newcard?

The New School advises incoming residents to submit a photograph through its card-services portal for a newcard. On-campus residents with an approved photo can receive the student card at residence-hall check-in. Submit the photo through the university’s card-services process, confirm its approval, and check the card-distribution instructions for your residence check-in. Students who will not live on campus should ask the university how their card will be distributed. Confirm any separate building-access authorization before using the card for entry. University guidance checked on October 17, 2026.

Source record: 2026-10-17. Incoming on-campus residents, approved photos and residence-hall check-in only. Nonresident distribution may differ. No mailed card, guaranteed readiness or access before authorization is established. University guidance checked on October 17, 2026.
