Start with the campus and your timeline
School and move-in eligibility
Use the official New York University source for the relevant campus and academic year before signing a lease or planning a student move into a family-owned home. A landlord’s approval does not establish university eligibility.
Parent and out-of-state planning
Match the lease or purchase timeline to the school calendar. For a remote move, verify the exact campus destination, inspection and touring arrangements, utilities, emergency access and maintenance responsibilities.
For a family purchase, verify occupancy, roommate rules, HOA restrictions, financing and the post-graduation plan for the actual home. Property-specific eligibility and availability are not established by this hub.

How does NYU distinguish apartment-style residence halls from traditional halls?
NYU distinguishes apartment-style university residence halls from traditional halls by the presence of a kitchen inside the suite or apartment. The official residence-hall directory reviewed on October 17, 2026 supports this classification within the NYC upper-year housing system. These are NYU-administered residence assignments, rather than independently leased private apartments. Use the directory to identify the housing format, then check NYU Housing’s requirements for the student’s population and proposed residence. NYC halls span Manhattan and Brooklyn, so a place in the directory should not automatically be treated as near Washington Square. The directory-level information does not establish eligibility for a particular hall, a specific bed count, a vacancy or a guaranteed assignment. Confirm the relevant campus, hall and housing offer before planning a move.

What 2026–27 cost-of-attendance budget does NYU publish for full-time New York CAS undergraduates?
NYU’s published 2026–27 cost-of-attendance information gives a $100,998 two-semester budget for a full-time undergraduate in the New York College of Arts and Science living on or off campus. The cited budget includes $68,576 for tuition and fees and a $26,438 housing-and-food allowance. Those two components alone are not the complete budget; use the university’s stated total with its full categories. Keep the New York campus, CAS program, full-time enrollment and two-semester period attached to the estimate. It should not be generalized to Tisch, Tandon, graduate study, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai or other NYU programs. The reviewed information retained pending-approval wording, so confirm precise billing with the current Bursar information. The housing allowance is an aid-budget estimate, not a private apartment rent quote. Actual charges, living costs and aid can differ for an individual student. The official source was reviewed on October 17, 2026.
