Start with the campus and your timeline
School and move-in eligibility
Use the official Elon University source for the relevant campus and academic year before signing a lease or planning a student move into a family-owned home. A landlord’s approval does not establish university eligibility.
Parent and out-of-state planning
Match the lease or purchase timeline to the school calendar. For a remote move, verify the exact campus destination, inspection and touring arrangements, utilities, emergency access and maintenance responsibilities.
For a family purchase, verify occupancy, roommate rules, HOA restrictions, financing and the post-graduation plan for the actual home. Property-specific eligibility and availability are not established by this hub.

What two-year residence and transfer-student rules does Elon publish?
Elon states a two-year residence requirement. Students seeking to live off campus before junior year need an approved release from Residence Life. Incoming transfer students generally must live on campus unless they have completed four semesters of full-time enrollment at another institution, subject to the published exceptions. The transfer benchmark concerns full-time enrollment, not four semesters of on-campus residence. Ask Residence Life to review your transfer history or early-release request before relying on a private lease.
Source record: 2026-10-17. Residence Life must review individual exceptions; this guide does not approve a release or validate a private lease. The transfer rule includes parent/guardian and nontraditional-age exceptions; other exemptions require Residence Life approval. Confirm how dual-enrollment credits or semesters count with Residence Life. Juniors and later years are the ordinary off-campus cohort, subject to individual status, releases, transfer rules, and nontraditional-student exceptions. The policy does not establish a numerical eligible-renter pool, demand, leases, or current inventory. Guidance checked October 17, 2026.
What double-room rate does Elon list for students newly enrolled beginning Fall 2026?
For newly admitted students first enrolled beginning Fall 2026, Elon’s rate table lists double-occupancy housing in the specified residence halls and on-campus houses at $4,449 per semester, or $8,898 for fall and spring combined. Confirm that the table applies to your entering cohort and housing configuration, then ask Student Financial Services for the other charges that apply to you.
Source record: 2026-10-17. These figures apply only to newly admitted students first enrolled beginning Fall 2026 and the stated double-occupancy residence-hall and on-campus-house configurations. The figures are housing charges, not tuition or a private-apartment quote. Confirm utilities, dining or meal-plan charges, deposits, and other inclusions separately. Guidance checked October 17, 2026.
