Start with the campus and your timeline

School and move-in eligibility

Use the official Columbia University source for the relevant campus and academic year before signing a lease or planning a student move into a family-owned home. A landlord’s approval does not establish university eligibility.

Parent and out-of-state planning

Match the lease or purchase timeline to the school calendar. For a remote move, verify the exact campus destination, inspection and touring arrangements, utilities, emergency access and maintenance responsibilities.

For a family purchase, verify occupancy, roommate rules, HOA restrictions, financing and the post-graduation plan for the actual home. Property-specific eligibility and availability are not established by this hub.

Who is eligible to apply for Columbia Residential apartment housing?

Columbia Residential apartment housing is limited to students enrolled in specified eligible full-time degree programs. Its eligibility information identifies participating graduate programs and directs Columbia College and Columbia Engineering undergraduates to the separate Columbia Housing system. University affiliation alone does not establish eligibility for Columbia Residential. Start with the Residential eligibility list and match the student’s exact school, degree program and enrollment status. A Columbia College or Columbia Engineering undergraduate family should follow the Columbia Housing route rather than assume the graduate apartment system applies. The official information reviewed on October 17, 2026 establishes this distinction; it does not establish a particular apartment, rent, vacancy or assignment. Confirm the applicable application process and an actual offer with the university before making housing commitments.

Source record: 2026-10-17. Specified eligible full-time degree programs; not blanket undergraduate eligibility. Columbia Residential graduate housing only; undergraduate Columbia Housing is separate. Checked 2026-10-17. No unit assignment, price, vacancy, or guarantee established.

What is Columbia’s published 2026–27 undergraduate budget for Columbia College and Engineering?

Columbia’s undergraduate admissions cost page publishes a $99,774 estimated budget for the 2026–27 Columbia College and Columbia Engineering undergraduate cohort. The listed components are $72,800 tuition, $4,160 fees, $7,128 food, $12,522 housing, $1,320 books and $1,844 personal expenses. Those six amounts sum to $99,774; student travel and local transit vary. Use the total as a budget for this named undergraduate cohort. It is not a universal figure for General Studies, graduate programs or every Columbia student. The first-year residence requirement and the upperclass off-campus housing-and-food allowance also need to be considered in the student’s actual circumstances. An aid-budget housing allowance does not quote the rent on a private apartment. Confirm the relevant program, bill, living arrangement and individual aid before deciding what the family will pay. These figures come from the official source reviewed on October 17, 2026.

Source record: 2026-10-17. 2026–27 budget limited to the named program, residency and living arrangement. No universal total for General Studies, graduate, or other Columbia programs Travel and local transit vary by student No actual student bill, lease, or apartment-rent evidence
