Should I rent for my first year at University of Arkansas before buying?
DIRECT ANSWER
Source-qualified general planning guidance or published university resources only. Preserve the stated 2026–27 permit category, salary threshold and payment limitations; actual availability, employee benefits, property suitability and individual loan approval are not inferred.
Renting first can provide time to confirm your work location at the University of Arkansas, commute and household needs, but compare the written lease's full term and exit costs with your actual plans. Buying immediately may be workable when the appointment, financing and expected stay are sufficiently settled; use the property's Loan Estimate and a sale-risk scenario before deciding. Do not assume that one year of rent is automatically wasted or that future appreciation will recover purchase and sale costs. These sources do not establish a mandatory first-year rental policy or a guaranteed financial winner for incoming University of Arkansas employees.
