Auburn's Employee Transition Allowance Policy provides a discretionary transition allowance for approved incoming employees, rather than reimbursement of moving bills or direct payment to moving vendors. It can cover personal moving, relocation and employment transition costs, including temporary storage or housing, travel and meals. The allowance must be approved in advance, recorded in writing and tied to starting employment; it is not automatic and Auburn sets no standard amount. It is paid through payroll as taxable additional compensation, generally during the first month after employment begins. Amounts above 10% of regular starting annual base salary require approval by the appropriate Senior Vice President or President. Ask the hiring department and Human Resources to confirm your eligibility, written amount, approvals and payment timing before relying on it. Sponsored-project funding carries additional limits and documentation requirements. If employment ends after payment but before relocation, Auburn reserves the right to recover all or part of the allowance.

UA's Accounts Payable relocation page says the university does not pay moving companies directly or reimburse individuals for moving expenses. It uses a moving-allowance policy instead. Newly hired employees work with the hiring department on timing, and the final determination is at that department's discretion. The page requires supporting offer-letter or approval documentation and distinguishes payment before employment through Accounts Payable from payment after employment through payroll. It says house-hunting trips are not reimbursed separately and should be included in the allowance. Confirm the actual award, amount, conditions, timing and tax treatment in your own written offer and with the responsible office; the policy is not a promise that every new hire receives an allowance.
