How the bill and payment timing work
Mecklenburg County mailed 2026 real property tax bills on July 28, 2026. They’re due Sept. 1, 2026 and must be paid by Jan. 5, 2027 to avoid interest; bills paid on or after Jan. 6, 2027 get 2% interest for January and then 0.75% for each month after that until paid.

- The county says the online banking bill-pay method is not recommended for tax payments because rejected payments can still accrue interest.
