Northeastern’s Housing & Residential Life system includes housing that is owned or leased by the University. Most rooms come with a bed frame, twin XL mattress, desk, desk chair, and dresser, and the university says most halls have common spaces for studying, group work, and student activities.
- All Northeastern University housing is smoke-free.
- The university does not provide square footage or room measurements because each room is unique.
- Dining halls are in Stetson East, Stetson West, and International Village.
- Residential services on the housing site include cable and internet, laundry, mail, print, and facilities work orders.
Who has to live in university housing
Currently, undergraduates who enter as first-year students to Boston through fall admission and NUin are required to live in university housing for their first two years. The housing site also says that beginning with entering undergraduates in Fall 2026, Boston or Oakland first-years entering through fall admission and N.U.in are required to live in university housing for their first two years.
- If you are a required student and do not complete the housing application, or are approved to live off campus through the Residency Waiver Process, you will be assigned randomly.
- The application can take 24–48 hours after the enrollment deposit is paid before Housing Online access appears.
- Assignments for first-year students are done in enrollment-deposit date order.
Meal plans and room setup
All first-year students are required to have a meal plan. For first-year students living in University Housing assignments listed in the campus-specific menus, the required plan is a Traditional Meal Plan.

Graduate and law students
For the 2025–2026 academic year, Northeastern says there will not be University Housing for new or returning Graduate Students or Law Students. The university directs those students to its off-campus housing resources for the Boston area.
